Multilayer landscape classification based on potential vegetation

چکیده

Vegetation-based landscape classifications reflecting combinations of different types vegetation promote the understanding patterns and ecological restoration. However, widespread containing a single thematic resolution may oversimplify patterns. This study aimed at providing solution for testing formalized classification, relying on landscape’s full potential, i.e. multiple potential (MPV). Two areas were studied: territory Hungary coarse scale an agriculture-dominated landscape, Körös-Maros Interfluve (south-eastern Hungary), fine scale. Hierarchical clustering ordination used to determine based type composition landscapes each spatial After cutting resulting dendrogram several levels plotting results maps plots, most relevant resolutions selected plots separation groups was tested statistically. The vegetation-based units reasonably well aligned with biogeographical knowledge both when included whole country. Landscape unit delineation interpretation typical habitats linked them benefitted from use series resolutions. For example, in case Interfluve, apart well-known grassland vegetation, theMPV-based approach highlighted distribution woodland currently non-wooded area. Furthermore, finer indicated possibility new along temporary small streams. combined application enhanced landscape. as input also enables classification transformed landscapes. allows flexible choice specific uses.

Classification based on 3-similarity

Similarity concept, finding the resemblance or classifying some groups of objects and study their common properties has been the interest of many researchers. Basically, in the studies the similarity between two objects or phenomena, 2-similarity in our words, has been discussed. In this paper, we consider the case when the resemblance or similarity among three objects or phenomena of a set, 3-...

The Maltese Islands: Climate, Vegetation and Landscape

The Maltese Islands, situated in the central Mediterranean, occupy an area of only some 316 km. The climate is typically Mediterranean: the average annual rainfall is c.530mm of which some 85% falls during the period October to March; the mean monthly temperature range is 12-26°C, and the islands are very windy and sunny. Although small, the Maltese Islands have a considerable diversity of land...

A classification of landscape fire succession models: spatial simulations of fire and vegetation dynamics

A classification of spatial simulation models of fire and vegetation dynamics (landscape fire succession models or LFSMs) is presented. The classification was developed to provide a foundation for comparing models and to help identify the appropriate fire and vegetation processes and their simulation to include in coarse scale dynamic global vegetation models. Other uses include a decision tool...

Object-based spatial classification of forest vegetation with IKONOS imagery

Object-based image analysis (OBIA) is employed to classify forest types, including deciduous, evergreen and mixed forests, in a U.S. National Park unit using very high spatial resolution (VHR) IKONOS satellite imagery. This research investigates the effect of scale on segmentation quality and object-based forest type classification. Average local variance and spatial autocorrelation analyses ar...
